The Stroll is looking for a Managing Editor for its 2027 annual anthology.
Job Description and Timeline
The Stroll of Poets Society has published an annual anthology of members’ poems since 1991. The Stroll requires a Managing Editor to oversee publication of the 2027 Anthology, beginning work in the fall of 2026 and ending with publication and distribution at the end of March 2027.
The Managing Editor must have previous editing experience and a strong understanding of the Stroll’s purpose and values. Work for the Anthology typically begins in November and ends in March, with most of the labour taking place in January and February.
The Managing Editor will also work with the outgoing editor in January 2026 for mentorship and training.
Compensation
Compensation for the position is $800, paid upon delivery of finished product, and presentation of a report for the Annual General Meeting.
Qualifications & Duties
The Managing Editor:
a. Report to the Stroll of Poets Board directly through Board Anthology Liaison.
b. Collects all electronically submitted poetry, author biographies, and cover photo submissions, plus hard copy submissions input onto computer and sent by the Administrative Assistant from the Writer’s Guild of Alberta.
c. Arranges for an editing session with volunteers, and inputs corrections following the meeting.
d. Arranges, subject to Board’s final approval, a blind cover-art or photo selection from submissions received (usually done during volunteer editing session).
e. Formats Anthology and cover in a print ready format (pdf).
f. Submits the Anthology to printer and oversees printing.
i. Establishes with the printer a schedule of deadlines to insure delivery.
ii. Reviews the final hard-copy proof with the Anthology Liaison and/or one other Stroll Member prior to the bulk print run.
iii. Picks up, or arranges for a volunteer to pick up, printed copies for distribution at the Annual General Meeting.
g. Presents a report for the Annual General Meeting.
h. Retains all poetry submissions and correspondence until the project is complete. At the end of the project, transfers submissions and correspondence to the Stroll Administrative Assistant at the Writers Guild of Alberta.
