For My Son Brian

You ask me what a blessing is
As though you 'ready knew
I look into your angel eyes
And say, my son, it's 'you'

You asked if I did always want
To have a little boy
I smiled knowing you'll never know
How much you've brought me joy

Your little face and thoughtful ways
Are god's own gifts from heaven
Your timeless words I treasure
Although you're only seven

My wish is that you'll always know
Before my days are done
How overwhelmed with gratitude
I am, that you're my son
