THE DANCE OF DARKNESS

i have danced with you
oh mighty demon of the dark
i was tired and you comforted me
with your pity and your wallow
i have listened to your music
getting lost in the absence of melody
your prison had no walls
yet the gates remained shut
there i remained
in this underworld
living but not alive
until i could see
the chains
were merely reflections
of the shadows i cast
so began the rejoining
to the land i never really left
to the love i never really lost
not a day goes by
when i miss you
but i think of you
for i am thankful
i have lived through hell

i walk much braver now
my look is deeper
my heart is wiser
yes i have danced with you
oh mighty demon of despair
and when i hear
the sweetness of your music
and pause
perhaps to rest
i remember the depths of your darkness
how easy the fall
how difficult the climb
my memories are my soldiers
reminding me
the bitterness of your tune
it is with pleasure
i sit this dance out
